56 newspapers speak with one voice on climate change

Dozens of major newspapers from around the world have taken the unprecedented step of running shared editorial calling for urgent action at the Copenhagen climate talks.

Most of the papers ran the article on their front pages.

The editorial was translated and printed in many languages, including Chinese, Arabic and Russian.

The page-long editorial says: “If we, with such different national and political perspectives, can agree on what must be done then surely our leaders can too.

“The politicians in Copenhagen have the power to shape history’s judgment on this generation: one that saw a challenge and rose to it, or one so stupid that we saw calamity coming but did nothing to avert it.

“We implore them to make the right choice.”

The piece was put together by the UK’s Guardian newspaper and can be seen in full here.
