COP15 chairman explains his role

The pressure is on delegates at the Copenhagen climate talks to come away with a sealed deal - but imagine having to keep them all in line.

That’s the job of John Ash who is chairman of a key negotiation committee deciding on a second protocol period to start from January 1, 2014.

Mr Ash said: “You may have heard the Kyoto protocol is going to end in 2012, that’ not true.”

Mr Ash went onto say he’s also looking at green house gas emissions and joked that he only dealt with ‘nice, sensible things’ and left the financial issues to others.
