The StatoilHydro turbine uses a ballast-filled globe extending 100 metres below the surface to stabilise the tower and turbine itself – think a giant spring onion with rotating blades.
Alexandra Bech Gjorv, head of new energy at StatoilHydro, outlines the project in the video below.
