Crucially, according to makers aleo solar AG, if the claims about the new module stand up it could create an entirely new market for companies with small premises to invest in solar power infrastructure.
The German-based firm is showing off for the first time its latest solar panel at the 26th EU PVSEC conference in Hamburg from today (September 5).
Its module called the S_19, which has been created in partnership with Bosch who are aleo solar AG's majority shareholders, will go on sale early next year.
It is a 260-watt module based on 60 monocrystalline cells from Bosch enabling peak yields that can produce more than1kw of nominal capacity on an area of just 6.5 square metres.
aleo solar chief sales officer, Norbert Schlesiger, said: "The greater a solar module's output is, the lower the system costs will be - this also includes expenses for the installation."
"It pays off to use the most efficient solar modules, especially for small rooftop areas, this makes the best use of the space and enables greater electricity yields with the same planning and installation effort."
The aleo solar group will have an annual production capacity of 390 megawatts as of the end of 2011, last year it also had a turnover of more than £480M.
