The retired footballer submitted a planning application to install a wind turbine at his home in Bolton, which was later approved by Bolton Council.

However, residents in the area expressed their disapproval of the installation in a meeting with Mr Neville and through the council.

Mr Neville apparently took on board the concerns of the residents and withdrew his plans.

The former footballer has now submitted new proposals for his home that are considered 'greener' than the previous plans.

The eco-home will include a ground source heat pump, sustainable rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic cells to generate energy.

Part of the new planning application said: "The main aspirations for the house are for it to be of an exceptional, innovative design quality, to have the highest sustainability credentials, and to be carefully and sensitively integrated into the landscape".
