Rupert Murdoch labels renewable energy investment ‘useless’

Channel 4's Jon Snow has hit back at media mogul Rupert Murdoch for stating on his twitter account that the world should switch from "useless renewable energy investments to real job creating infrastructure projects".

The chairman and CEO of News Corporation made the statement on Sunday, angering many of his followers who support renewable energy.

Replying to Murdoch’s tweet, news anchor Snow referred to Murdoch’s mother and suggested that the media mogul would not have to deal with the consequences of climate change.

He tweeted: “You’re lucky Rupert, even if u live as old as yr Mum u’only got 20 yrs to face the consequences: rest of us hve rather longer!”.

Backing up his earlier comment, Murdoch referred to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which suggests that 30 years of satellite images have shown that green vegetation has been increasing for three decades.

He tweeted: “World growing greener with increased carbon. Thirty years of satellite evidence. Forests growing faster and thicker”.

The WSJ report said that the latest and most detailed satellite data confirms that the greening of the Earth has now been going on since the 1980’s.

“Between 1982 and 2011, 20.5% of the world’s vegetated area got greener, while just 3% grew browner; the rest showed no change” it added.
