Sustainability stats: This week in numbers

It's been a mixed bag of sustainability news this week. As we approach Halloween and loom closer to the crucial Paris talks, it is the spectre of climate change that seems to be lurking in the darkness.

Thankfully, we’ve got solar power to light the way. A (rare) sunny September saw households in Scotland basking in heat and light generated from clean energy.

Wind Power has also been getting in on the act. Last year, investment into the sector reached new heights, according to one new report. However, not one to be swept off of his feet, David Cameron used the well-timed Conservative Party Conference to mention climate change – and he did, just once.

The Government’s apparent desire to sweep energy under the rug is seemingly beginning to take its toll on the sector. The Mark Group has had Deloitte knocking at its door and now finds itself in administration.

Other businesses seem to have already gearing up for an increasignly uncertain future. New information has revealed that the number of major companies using internal carbon pricing almost tripled from last year.

And even the oil guzzlers are getting on board: two big oil producers are dusting off the Mortarboards as they partner up with universities to find the ‘sustainable fuel of the future’.

Finally, anyone who is already fed-up of October’s predictably unpredictable weather and is thinking about jetting off for a week or two will be glad to know that four national airports have taken huge strides in reducing their carbon emissions.

As always click, on the pic for the full story…
