The Lincolnshire-based manufacturer of fresh food packaging has been nomiated for the Product & Service category of the EBAE awards following triumph in the Sustainable Packaging category at last year's edie Sustainability Awards. It is one of 11 UK entrants selected as finalists for the EBAEs for 2016.

LINPAC won over edie's judges and has been selected for the EBAEs for its Rfresh Elite product - a super-lightweight, 100% recyclable tray that significantly reduces the overall weight and carbon footprint of packaging. More than 100 million Rfresh Elite trays have been sold to meat, poultry and fish packers in search of a sustainable tray packaging option.

Commenting on this nomination, LINPAC director of innovation at Alan Davey said: “Representing the UK in such a prestigious award is a testament to the hard work and dedication that goes into keeping LINPAC at the forefront of the packaging environmental challenge and we were delighted to receive the recognition and share it with our employees and key stakeholders. We are proud of our commitment to working with packers and retailers to develop supply chain efficient and sustainable packaging solutions.

“Our commitment to environmental stewardship has become embedded into our company’s character. We believe that the external recognitions that we have received to date help us attract, retain and engage our employees, customers and partners, and are validation that we are doing the right thing. Being recognised at these awards is an honour of our achievements in improving our environment and encourages other manufacturers within the industry to follow our lead.”

The EBAE awards are handed out by the European Commission every two years and aim to recognise and reward European companies that successfully bring together innovation, economic viability, environmental considerations and social equity. LINPAC qualifies for the Product & Service category due to its success at edie's Sustainability Leaders Awards - an RSA Accredited feeder scheme to the European Commission’s EBEA.

Best of the best

Finalists for the EBAE were announced this week by the RSA environment Awards Forum, which accredits awards to objective standards, ensuring that there is a benchmark for those that reward real progress towards sustainability.

The 11 UK finalists will now go forward to the European finals, to be held in Tallinn, Estonia in October this year. They will be competing against winners from 28 other countries on the European stage. Since the EBAE awards were established, the UK has had more winners than any other country and this year’s strong UK entry looks likely to produce more outright winners in Europe.

RSA Environment Awards Forum chair Malcolm Aickin said: “It is really difficult to choose between them, but fortunately the UK’s robust and meaningful selection process ensures that only the most innovative and sustainable products, processes and management systems are selected from the many hundreds of winners of environment awards across the country."
