Businesses offered free advice on water saving

While a growing number of businesses are waking up to the value of cutting their carbon footprint, the issue of water use is still uncharted waters for many companies.

Government-funded advisory service Envirowise has developed an online water efficiency tool that allows companies to look at where and when water is being used and treated, how much it is costing them and where savings might be most easily made.

Water is widely predicted to become an increasingly stretched, and therefore expensive, resource in the UK and businesses that address their demand are likely to gain a competitive edge.

Claire Sweeney, water specialist at Envirowise, said: “Whilst many of us consider water to be a cheap and endless resource, the reality is that we are using and wasting far too much, and this is placing extra pressure on existing supplies as well as impacting on the bottom line.

“It is crucial that people are aware of the serious and complex issues around water supply and use and we hope the new Water Efficiency Tool from Envirowise will help businesses address these challenges in the most effective way.”
