Joan Ruddock MP, the minister for energy and climate change, was asked for her views on the scheme at the unveiling of the first Green voice of the UK yesterday (October 21).

The scheme, much like the current cash for old cars deal, is backed by plumbers and their suppliers who want the Government to introduce a scheme for old boilers to encourage their replacement with newer, more efficient models.

Mrs Ruddock said: “I’m in favour of any scheme that will help us tackle climate change and reduce emissions.

“However, the final decision would have to be taken by the Treasury.”

A petition to support the boiler scrappage scheme was set up on the Number 10 website by Mick Williams, managing director of Portsmouth plumbers merchant Williams and Co it can be found by clicking here.
