The project will improve the local infrastructure and provide a sufficient supply of water.

It is hoped that this will lead to future residential development and commercial and industrial expansion.

The civil works contract has been awarded to Carty Contractors Ltd by Cork County Council and the consultant engineers are T J O’Connor Consulting Engineers.

The project involves drawing water from three boreholes at Box Cross and providing treatment and pumping of treated water to the existing Mallow reservoir.

The contract includes 16km of water mains and upgrades to treatment and storage facilities.

The site works begin in March and are due for completion by the end of 1012.

This contract is one of a raft of construction contracts awarded for wastewater treatment and water supply schemes to improve the water services infrastructure in Cork. The contracts total Euro 19.4 million.
