Back solar power call at Ecobuild

Ecobuild's packed solar hub echoed to calls of 'Save Our Solar' as business demanded the Government backed the renewable energy source.

Ecobuild, arguably the world’s largest sustainable building show, is taking over the Excel in the east of London for three days from today (March 1).

One of the most established solar power companies Solarcentury led the calls for the Government to create stability in solar for the industry to contribute in the UK and prevent it turning into an ‘endangered species’.

Solarcentury’s head of public affairs, Seb Berry, speaking to edie said the Government has taken a statuary definition of micro-generation at 50 kilo watts and extended a review about ‘super-sized solar’ right down into even the very small scale photovoltaic (PV) sector.

Mr Berry said: “The overwhelming mood here is one of shock, ministers have been preparing the industry for some sort of urgent review of PV in green fields.

“Our view is that concern was misplaced and the reality is there isn’t a single PV farm that’s actually been built and only a handful in planning – that’s it.

“The shock in the industry comes from people having no forewarning that that immediate review would be extended right down to the built environment PV sector that you can see here at Ecobuild.”
