WSR plans to build another 100,000-tonne capacity plant to create a dual-waste facility that can handle non-hazardous and dry waste streams. The expanded site will increase total processing capacity to over 200,000 tonnes per year.

The new plant will be capable of achieving at least a 90% recovery rate of commercial, domestic or co-mingled waste streams. Once operational, WSR says the facility will enable it to enhance service provision throughout Cheshire, Lancashire, Manchester, Merseyside and North Wales.

WSR Recycling’s managing director, Mark Trousdale, said: “The three main objectives driving the investment are time, quality and innovation. We want to deliver efficient waste processing services that set a new standard, both in terms of technique and the recovery rates that can be achieved.”

As part of the investment, WSR is also proposing the integration of a rail link with an existing line to maximise logistical flexibility and reduce carbon footprint.
