SWR extends waste operations at Edinburgh Airport

SWR has won the waste management contract for Derichebourg, the aviation ground services provider at Edinburgh Airport, following its recent BAA contract win there.

Derichebourg’s operations at Edinburgh include cleaning all the planes coming into the airport during their turnaround time. SWR will be responsible for dealing with all the waste collected by the airlines during flights.

SWR says it aims to deliver “significantly improved recycling levels” from 6% to 60% by changing current waste processes and educating Derichebourg staff about the importance and processes of waste segregation.

SWR’s CEO, Giles Whiteley, said: “Having recently won the BAA contract to manage the waste at Edinburgh Airport we have already begun to make positive changes to the way their waste is handled and disposed of.

“It is fantastic to be working with Derichebourg as well, as we are now having an impact in all areas of the airport operations. This joined up approach will dramatically improve recycling across the site, while reducing their waste disposal costs by up to 20% in the first year.”

Station manager of Derichebourg Multi Services, Craig Douglas, added: “Employing experts to manage our waste from our Edinburgh operations will help us to achieve the best possible results. SWR will provide us with quarterly reports, that include our carbon savings, to enable us to demonstrate our progress.”
