Ireland gets first zero-carbon store

The store in Cabra, Dublin, is according to the business a key element of its goal of being a zero-carbon by 2050.

Tesco has three other zero carbon outlets either open or about to start trading.

Tesco head of engineering and environment, Bukky Bird, said: “Our zero-carbon stores are designed with both the customer and the environment in mind.”

The new store has a number of environmental and energy efficient design features including lights that dim according to the level of natural daylight, rainwater to flush staff toilets, energy efficient Combined Heat Cooling and power plant to heat and cool the store and generate renewable electricity.

The new store has also created 150 new jobs.
