Fire-hit battery recycler Loddon goes into administration

Since the blaze broke out and destroyed a storage warehouse at the site, including 300 tonnes of waste portable batteries, the company has struggled to stay afloat. At the height of the blaze, over 75 firefighters attended the scene.

WasteCare, a major creditor of the Loddon business, has now stepped in to keep the Hampshire site operating. All staff have transferred to WasteCare and according to the company, services are continuing without interruption.

WasteCare Group’s managing director Peter Hunt said: “We have worked closely with the management and staff of Loddons for several years and are delighted to invest in the future of the Hampshire business.

“We are confident that their hard work and dedication will continue to provide a high standard of customer care. In the coming months, it is our intention to expand the business at the site and provide a total collection and recycling service for the region.”

All activities and infrastructure will transfer across to WasteCare, including battery sorting, electrical equipment recycling and fluorescent tube collection and treatment.
