Bristol’s CWRE signs renewable energy deal with global fabric manufacturer

Bristol-based CW Renewable Energy (CWRE) has signed an energy supply deal with KG Fabriks, a manufacture of denim and apparel fabric for leading fashion brands and retailers, including UK household names Next and New Look.

CWRE is supplying energy from its wind turbines in India to KG Fabriks’ 20m square meter production sites in Perundurai and Coimbatore in Tamilnadu, South India.

The wind power supplied by CWRE will form 100% of all KG Fabrik’s onsite energy requirements in its spinning arm.

The fabric manufacturer, which employs 3000 people in spinning and weaving operations for world markets uses renewable wind energy sourced from CWRE to deliver every kilogram of cotton yarn used in the denim it manufactures.

President of KG Fabriks, Srihari Balakrishnan, said: “KG Fabriks has made a significant commitment to ensuring sustainable business operations, from our innovative dyeing processes through to waste water recycling and use of green energy to drive our production plant. We are in fact a zero liquid and zero solid discharge company, now with almost zero fossil fuel usage in denim manufacture.”

Chief executive of CWRE, Wendy Stephenson, added: “The fact that one of India’s premier manufacturers, KG Fabriks, has signed a renewable energy deal with us reflects the business opportunities for the sector in India and consequently the investment potential”.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
