Mitsubishi receives Carbon Trust Standard

The environmental technologies manufacturer, which has its headquarters in Hatfield, has been awarded the Standard for its efforts to reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint.

“Like any business, we have had to justify any expenditure,” said Mitsubishi’s sustainable solutions manager Martin Fahey. “What we have done is look at every opportunity to increase the efficiency of each element when a piece of equipment has reached the end of its useful working life and needs replacing.

“This has allowed us to demonstrate that the technology already exists that can make a difference to almost any property out there.

“Achieving this recognition from the Carbon Trust vindicates that approach and should highlight just how achievable it is for any individual business or home.”

Mitsubishi Electric has occupied the glass-fronted, three-storey Hatfield building since the late 1980’s and this is where the major reductions in energy usage have been achieved.

The Carbon Trust assessed and certified Mitsubishi’s improvements year-on-year, along with the energy and business car usage and mileage over a three-year period.

“We wanted to show what can be achieved in the normal course of running a business and one of the most important factors is ensuring that you involve staff,” added Fahey. “We hold regular events with where we challenge staff to question their own impact on the business and also seek ideas and help from them.”

The Carbon Trust measures and certifies the environmental footprint of organisations, products and services; helping to develop and deploy low-carbon technologies and solutions, from energy efficiency to renewable power.
