At COP15 in the Danish capital water was left off the agenda angering many groups at the talks.

However, at Cancun’s Moon Palace Resort water is getting a lot more attention than in Copenhagen’s Bella Centre.

During a panel discussion on Sustainable Watersheds a group of water experts said any deal would need to look at water use.

Yesterday (December 1) saw the first National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) talks, which are due to carry on until next Monday.

“We believe no strategy will bring results if water resource management is not taken into account as a central part in the issue of mitigation and adaptation,” Jose Luis Luege Tamargo, director of CONAGUA told journalists.

Polioptro Martínez Austria, general director of the Mexican Institute of Water Technology (IMTRA), spoke about water management.

He said: “The proposal is that the final outcome of the COP16 establishes a specific mention about water resources and transfer of technology.”
