This Wednesday was D-Day for WEEE in France, with the country becoming the latest EU state to implement its strategy for the collection and disposal of electrical and electronic products.
France currently produces 28kg of e-waste per person per year and the Government has set ambitious targets to cut this figure by four kilos by the end of this year – just six weeks after the introduction of the scheme – though Environment Minister Hervé Vanlaer has said already said it is more likely to be met by mid-2007.
Retailer take-back schemes are expected to provide the backbone of France’s compliance strategy.
