A beach has been re-opened following its closure last week after cargo containers were washed ashore from the stricken MSC Napoli.

Two of the ten containers lost from the ship in bad weather last week sank and have been left on the seabed but the remaining eight floated onto Littlecombe Shoot Beach outside Sidmouth.

Severely damaged containers spilled biscuits and paper onto the beach but those which posed the greatest threat to the environment, containing electrical goods and machine parts, remained intact.

All intact containers, the wreckage of those which were damaged and a large amount of debris have now been cleared from the beach.
