The survey, carried out by the BREW Centre for local authorities, shows that the most common materials collected for trade waste recycling are paper, cardboard, metal, cans, glass and plastics.
Susan Kent, the BREW Centre manager said: “This research highlights the number of local authorities who are already actively engaging with their local business community, supporting them with their recycling needs and helping them to divert waste away from landfill.”
The BREW Centre will use these results to feed into the development of future services, and will continue to monitor the development of similar services that support local business communities aiming to increase profitability through efficient use of resources and waste reduction.
The BREW Centre for local authorities is funded by DEFRA’s Business Resource Efficiency and Waste Programme (BREW) and is a consortium between the Local Government Association (LGA), the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) and Oxfordshire County Council.
