Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mary Wallace, announced that an extra Euro 600,000 of funding would be made available to provide further support to developing enterprises in the wood chip supply sector.

The Minister said that the extra money would help build on the success of the first phase grant scheme launched earlier this year.

“This scheme will provide further opportunities for developing forestry potential at a local level,” Ms Wallace explained.

She added that the department would be running a seminar day for businesses interested in apply for the grants.

At the recent EU Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, Ms Wallace committed Irish businesses to working to better manage the forestry sector in the country.
