Media fund for sustainable development projects

Media organisations and journalists throughout Ireland have the opportunity to secure funding for projects focusing on sustainable development issues.

Comhar, the sustainable development council, has invited applications for media project funding of up to Euro 2,000.

Through the Comhar Sustainable Media Fund, all Irish media involving print, broadcasting, photographic and new media projects are eligible for funding.

Noel Casserly, director of Comhar, said that they were hoping for a good response from the media and were looking forward to receiving wide-ranging applications.

“We’re hoping to fund projects that look at issues like climate change, sustainable transport, conservation and sustainable consumption,” he added.

The organisation was also looking for projects that link sustainable development, public health and social inclusion.

Mr Casserly will be joined on the application judging panel by broadcaster Duncan Stewart and Elaine Nevin, the director of Ireland’s environment education and youth organisation ECO-UNESCO.

Comhar recently made recommendations to the Department of Transport’s public consultation on sustainable travel and transport, advising incentives, integration with planning, infrastructure, institutional arrangements and information as the five key points.
