The Sunday Business Post reports that the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) initiative will be advertised via a €200,000 series of radio and online slots.

For two weeks on both national and local radio stations, the Send Them To A Better Place campaign will feature a range of electronic items flying away with angel wings to their new home – an electrical retailer or recycling centre.

According to the newspaper, the radio slots involve Tom the Toaster and Ted the Telly, characters forgotten in a shed, with an attic also unearthing old goods such as curling tongs and a heater.

The European Commission states the WEEE scheme to be one aimed at reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfills.

Producers are responsible for taking their goods back for recycling.
