Fly-tipping haulage firm fined £22k

A haulage firm has been slapped with a £22,000 fine and been ordered to pay almost £10,000 in court costs after a farmer saw one of its lorries dump construction waste on his land.

Worcester-based Mid Developments, which did not attend court or enter a plea, was found guilty of fly-tipping waste and failing to supply paperwork to the Environment Agency.

The agency launched an investigation into the incident, in Ryton, near Coventry, in September 2005, which found Mid Developments had illegally dumped 620 tonnes of waste on the land.

Last year, company manager John Bruce, of Drakes Broughton, Worcester, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to two charges relating to the incident.
