Waterford Today reported that the council said the park will include an extension of the St John’s river walk, the development of a 50-acre nature reserve and park in the area of Kilbarry Bog and the former landfill site, as well as flood relief measures on the Tramore Road.

Work is expected to cost in the region of Euro 4m.

Kilbarry Bog has been identified as being a key site for animal and plant diversity, the report claims.

Speaking to the paper, Michael Walsh of Waterford city council said: “At the moment, we are considering ways that we can create an ecological trail through Kilbarry Bog so that everyone can learn more about the natural environment we have here.”

The council has also proposed a series of projects designed to improve transportation in Waterford.

It states the initiatives will make the city’s roads better for pedestrians, cyclists, bus users and the environment.
