Shannon submissions deadline set for February

Statutorily, the council should receive submissions from all parties within four weeks, but February 27th has been set as the finalised date for those wishing to make their point.

Some submissions have already been received, but others are likely to wait until all documents have been studied.

A spokesperson from the council told the Herald: “We have a few submissions in already but we’re mainly still dealing with queries from stakeholders and we’re not expecting a lot of submissions until the end of January or so, because of the volume of documents people have to study before they are in a position to make a comprehensive submission.”

The spokesperson added that by forcing people to come to a decision inside four weeks would have meant “rushing” them in the lead up to Christmas.

It has been proposed that water could be pumped from the Shannon river’s lakes to Dublin to help the capital in its water shortage.

It is believed the current water supply will not last to serve the city beyond 2016.
