New awards announced for 2009

The Awards for Environmental Excellence is launching two new categories for the 2009 event which will once again be held at London's Natural History Museum on November 29.

Green Retail Initiative

Open to any company within the retail sector, this new category seeks
to recognise those that have shown a real attempt to improve their
environmental performance.

This may have been achieved through a specific project such as the
implementation of a more environmentally friendly delivery fleet or
reducing the carbon footprint of a particular store or through a broader
initiative such as looking at more sustainable ways of manufacturing or
procuring products.

It could also be an internal initiative focusing on the company’s in-
house activities or one that has faces the end users or the general public.

Local government initiative

For the 2009 Award for Local Government Initiative we are looking for a
project which stands out from the crowd and is leading the field. We want
to hear from authorities that have developed and implemented a plan that
has helped deliver a real change within its boundaries. The project can be
about a cultural change that has helped staff or local residents deliver
environmental benefits or it could be a new strategy that helps the
authority reduce its impact through technology, procurement practices,
resource management or any other means.

This award is open to any local authority in the UK, from parish
councils to those working at county or city level.

The projects to be entered into the awards must have been completed
after January 2008
