Leading environmental firm SLR Consulting has been using its virtual reality capabilities to support Viridor with a planning application for a proposed Energy from Waste (EFW) plant.

Viridor is one of the UK’s leading waste management companies and the facility, which will be located at Trident Park, 2km south-east of Cardiff, will process up to 350,000 tonnes of non-hazardous residual waste each year. This will generate energy to produce electricity for export to the National Grid and also heat for use in local businesses.

SLR principal Peter McGuckin said: “We used aerial photography supplied by Bluesky to enhance our virtual reality model of the proposed site and surrounding area.

“Virtual reality models are a powerful way of communicating the complexities of a proposed development and any potential impacts on the surrounding environment.

“The addition of aerial photography transformed the interactive model to a real world visual representation of the entire context.”
