Coming as the government works alongside local authorities to clean up water in and around the capital city, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government John Gormley has announced this new appointment, citing Mr McCaughey’s experience of implementing sustainable and eco-friendly developments.

According to the minister, through his role as founder and chief executive of Century Homes, the incoming DDDA chairman has shown clear leadership qualities “on issues including regulatory reform, sustainable business practices and the environmental and energy agenda”.

“He has the experience to lead the DDDA through this current period of uncertainty and to place it in a position where it can further develop the essential economic and social infrastructure to ensure a truly sustainable and prosperous future for our capital city,” Mr Gormley added.

Among the projects comprising the planned rejuvenation of Dublin Docklands is Spencer Dock, set to be the most ambitious urban regeneration scheme in Ireland’s history.
