£2m funding for climate change initiatives on offer

The grants, which are likely to be split between £100,000 and £500,000, are being offered to new projects demonstrating significant carbon savings in the north west region’s transition to a low carbon economy.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency is offering the funding as part of the Carbon Challenge Fund.

Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA said: “The Carbon Challenge Fund represents a key part of the Agency’s commitment to creating a low carbon economy in England’s Northwest.

“As a powerhouse of innovation, the region has a sound knowledge base that will ensure businesses and the public sector are able to demonstrate leadership in dealing with climate change whilst improving efficiency and therefore reducing costs and increasing green credentials.

“The Northwest Climate Change Action Plan sets out the importance of engaging businesses and the public sector, supporting the adoption of low carbon products and services, while the new fund will enable an even greater number of organisations to develop these important technologies.”

Ross Dixon from Envirolink Northwest, which will be receiving applications on behalf of the NWDA, added: “We’re asking applicants to submit projects that demonstrate innovation either through the technologies themselves or their overall approach.

“We’re looking for projects which will bring profile and recognition to the region with ideas and approaches that can be replicated here in the Northwest, across the UK and internationally.”
