The African state had announced it is prepared to reduce its emissions by around 34% by 2020 and by 42% by 2025.
It says its offer is conditional and will require support from the industrialised world, but this is expected will most if not all offers from developing economies.
The African state also announced it would be sending a high-powered delegation including President Jacob Zuma, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Buyelwa Sonjica and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
An official statement said that the country wished to be a responsible global citizen and advocates a successful outcome that will be inclusive, fair and effective with a balance between adaptation and mitigation and a balance between development and climate imperatives.
