The group, which includes rappers Lupe Fiasco and Kenna as well as actress Jessica Biel, today (January 7) began a 50 mile trek to the top of the 19,340 foot mountain.

The trek is expected to take seven days with the group updating their website SummitontheSummit.com as they go.

They’re doing the climb to highlight the fact one billion people in the world live without access to clean drinking water.

Grammy nominated musician Kenna has joined the trip in memory of his father’s brother who died when he was child as a result of a waterborne illness.

Kenna, who was born in Ethiopia but raised in America, took to his twitter site this morning to say he was about to start the climb.

He said: “We just saw the Kili! Nerves setting in on the group, send us love! We need you!”

The climb will raise funds for the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Water for People’s Playpump Technology.
