Workshops to tackle Irish food waste

Authorities in southern Ireland will host an event next week to better explain new food waste regulations passed in July.

The ‘Less Food Waste, More Profit’ workshop will provide guidance for food professionals on adhering to the Waste Management (Food Waste) Regulations.

These require all commercial premises to segregate and separately store all food waste for collections.

“This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for Clare and Limerick’s catering operators and chefs to find out more about the recently enacted food waste regulations,” said Pauline McDonagh of the event’s organisers, Limerick Clare Kerry Regional Waste Management Office.

“The regulations are designed to promote the segregation and beneficial use of food arising from the commercial sector and to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill.”

Adding a little spice to the occasion will be award-winning celebrity chef, Kevin Thornton.

The event takes place at Thomond Park Stadium, Limerick, next Tuesday (21 September) from 2pm and is free.
