Greens back Dublin bus review as first phase completed

The first phase of the Network Direct Bus Plan was rolled out yesterday (September 19) between Stillorgan and North Wicklow.

Junior minister for sustainable transport, Ciarán Cuffe, said: “The Network Review must not only be about the reorganisation of routes, the changes must translate into a more reliable service for Dublin Bus users and must attract new commuters out of their cars and onto buses.

“As part of the overhaul, Dublin Bus will change their timetables to even, ‘clock – face’ departure times and will now have stop-specific departure times at selected locations along routes.”

When the new network is fully in place, Dublin Bus estimate 60% of customers will be carried on high frequency routes, as opposed to 23% now.

The redesigned network is the result of detailed analysis by Dublin Bus of travel census data; the tracking of existing passenger trips – up to 500,000 customer movements per day – and focus group customer research.
