Water retail competition will allow non-domestic water users to switch suppliers of water retail services, opening the water and wastewater (sewerage) market to new companies and encouraging greater innovation within the sector and driving efficiency, cost reductions and service levels.

According to a 2015 impact assessment undertaken by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) this will deliver around £200m in benefits to the UK economy.
