Over 1,300 exhibitors, 600 speakers and 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the event between 1 and 3 March.

The generous space at ExCeL will mean that exhibitors can display sustainable construction products and materials through large scale exhibits and interactive demonstrations, such as how to install a solar panel or a green roof.

The event will include some major launches including the StramitZED straw house. Designed by eco architect, Bill Dunster, it is the latest in his eco housing stable – a straw board home that can be built for £135,000; £20,000 less than the normal cost of constructing a code level 6 house.

The straw boards are combined with timber and insulation from recycled newspaper and made into cassettes to build the homes.

Also launching will be Modcell’s Renewable Retail solution for supermarket heating and cooling. The technology uses prefabricated panels made from straw bales to build super-insulated, high-performance and low energy ‘passive’ buildings.

In addition to exhibits and displays there will be a free conference with speakers including Construction Minister, Mark Prisk and Chief Construction Advisor, Paul Morrell.

On Tuesday, 02 March ‘Rock star physicist’ Professor Brian Cox will present an award to the winner of the CIOB’s Inner Space 2050 competition. The competition, open to students aged 11 – 12 years, tasked entrants to design sustainable work and living spaces in orbit.

Edie will be covering more on the event and the exhibitors in the weeks to come.
