Valpak’s director of policy, Adrian Hawkes, speculated on how the highly-anticipated review might shape England’s future waste strategy while speaking at a seminar today (24 May) at the Sustainabilitylive! show in Birmingham.
He said the document might offer the potential to dovetail business waste with household waste, by integrating the collection of both and encouraging local authorities to offer more trade waste services.
He also told delegates that he hoped the review would make it easier for the public to recycle more while out and about.
“I do think there may be incentives to move towards more consistent recycling services, especially while away from home,” he said.
Hawkes added that he didn’t think the review would set any new mandatory regimes for producer responsibility, but hoped that future recycling targets for packaging would be revealed beyond 2012.
