The six-month trial, which will run at Wirral’s Bidston integrated waste management facility, has been set up by Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) in partnership with its waste contractor, Veolia.

Under the pilot, traders and businesses will be able to take advantage of a low cost service for disposing of their waste. MWDA owns the site and hopes the initiative will increase the opportunities for more trade waste to be recycled.

MWDA’s chief executive, Carl Beer, said: “Traders win because they will pay less to get rid of their waste than if they simply took it to landfill.

“Everyone else wins because we will be able to make sure as much of the waste as possible gets recycled so there is less pressure on the environment.”

MWDA’s chairperson, Councillor Kevin Cluskey, added: “We’re confident the service will prove really popular and look forward to extending it across Merseyside once it’s proved a success at Bidston.”
