Euro 350 million in 2011 has been invested in over 100 contracts currently under construction and will see the start of over 60 more.

There are 39 completely new contracts being added to the programme with an overall value of Euro 87 million.

These include a series of water conservation projects and contracts to ensure that water supplies and waste water infrastructure comply with drinking water or waste water discharge standards.

The total investment will support over 4,000 in construction annually and will support further jobs in manufacturing and in operating and maintaining the new infrastructure once completed.

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan T.D., said: “This review indicates that good progress is being made on the implementation of the 2010-2012 programme.

“My Department has particularly focused on accelerating activity on water conservation. Nearly all authorities now have mains rehabilitation strategies in place.”

He did acknowledge that there had been delays in the commencement of some larger projects in 2010 but said action had now been taken to put them back on track.
