As part of the contract, which commenced on September 1 2011, Cheshire-based WSR Recycling will be responsible for the majority of the council’s waste, including commercial and hazardous materials.

WSR Recycling’s managing director, Mark Trousdale, said the company was looking forward to continuing to work with the council, which it has worked with for more than ten years. He said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Halton which is built on delivering an exceptional and competitive service.

“We are naturally very pleased that this relationship will continue and we are committed to pioneering new advances that will help us to improve recycling rates, operational efficiency and ultimately the service we deliver to Halton and its residents.”

WSR Recycling has also rolled out an extensive expansion programme, which will see its plant double in capacity by the beginning of 2012. The new dual-waste facility will operate round the clock to process waste from Halton, including mechanical sweepings and mixed, commercial and hazardous arisings.
