The coalition government has come in for criticism for keeping some of the heavy financial responsibilities of the scheme, while taking away the possibility of generating revenue from it.
Representing DECC Paul Wilson, speaking at Energy Solutions Expo today (October 11) said the need to keep the schemes administration ‘robust’ outweighed calls to reduce costs.
There were more than 700 reponses to plans to simplify the CRC, which is administered by the Environment Agency, many of which wanted reduce administration costs, according to Mr Wilson.
He said: “Some admin costs, like robust reporting, are there for a good reason it wouldn’t be simplification to remove them all.
“We are working tirelessly to strip it down and looking at how to adapt the reputational drivers.”
He added the government was still looking at ways to reduce the amount of admin around the CRC.
