ESTA chairman, Martin Fry, speaking at Energy Solutions Expo today (October 11), said he would fly into Washington next month to attend a meeting aimed at creating a world-wide standard.

Mr Fry is also heavily involved in the UK led drive for a European Union energy management standard, which is due to be published in 2012.

According to Mr Fry any future world-wide standard will ‘undoubtedly’ be an ISO accredited one.

He explained there was an intense discussion in the energy industry around transport, which leads into a call for an international standard.

Mr Fry said rail energy monitoring was a ‘nightmare’, while maritime monitoring was very good.

He added: “We take energy for granted at the moment like the air we breathe.”
