WRG wins bumper HWRC contract in Buckinghamshire

Waste Recycling Group (WRG) has been awarded a contract to manage 10 household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council.

The new contract, with a possible three-year extension, is valued at up to £22m and comes into force next April. It will see up to 61 staff transferring to WRG from current provider, Aylesbury Secondary Metals.

The contract will see a range of waste reduction initiatives being introduced and improvements across the HWRC network. These include the introduction of recycling schemes for a wider range of materials, and the development of reuse facilities.

Buckinghamshire’s cabinet member for environment, Steven Adams, said: “Our recycling centres are very popular and divert a huge amount of waste away from landfill through recycling and reuse schemes.

“However the difficult financial climate we are in demands that we are achieving savings alongside better levels of performance for residents. I am very pleased that this new deal will achieve this.”

WRG, now part of FCC, the international environmental services, infrastructure and energy group, already provides waste disposal services on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council at its Calvert landfill site, near Aylesbury. WRG currently manages more than 78 HWRCs on behalf of 18 local authorities across the UK.
