The facility will be operated by AAD (South West), a subsidiary of British engineering firm the AeroThermal Group, which has developed its own technology to treat mixed waste.
The process combines industrial autoclave processing and AD technology to separate out materials from mixed waste for recycling, while generating 26GW a year of electricity. The compost-like byproduct will be used at a nearby China Clay workings as part of an ongoing restoration programme.
Commenting on the proposal, AAD’s managing director Tristan Lloyd-Baker said: “Our intention is to begin construction in early 2012 with a view to being fully operational from April 2013.”
The investment will create 22 long-term skilled jobs for local people and divert up to
75,000 tonnes of waste every year.
