Warwick Hospital aims to cut costs using solar

Warwick Hospital has become the second hospital in the area to install solar panels, as part of a drive to cut its electricity bills and generate green energy.

As part of the project, a 50kWh solar energy system was installed on the hospital roof by solar panel company Eco2Solar. It is estimated the system will generate more than 40,000 units of green energy per year for use on site.

The initiative is supported by a partnership consisting of local energy co-operative Community Energy Warwickshire (CEW) and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which aims to support local community projects that boost green energy production and reduce costs.

According to CEW, its community share offer raised nearly £110,000 to fund the project, which follows installation of a 10kWh system at Stratford Hospital at the end of last year.

CEW chair Keith Sinfield, said: “The fantastic response from local people in helping us to raise the money has ensured that we have been able to press ahead with this project despite the uncertainties caused by the Government’s proposals for cuts in Feed-in Tariff support for solar energy.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust by helping Trust staff to save energy and cut fuel bills – at home and at work.”
