WeeeCare wins Hampshire-wide electrical waste contract

Electrical recycler WeeeCare has scooped a massive contract from Hampshire County Council to collect and reprocess electrical waste from 26 household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) across the county.

The deal will increase WeeeCare’s total coverage to over 60 sites. Through this partnership the company will reprocess over 7,500 tonnes of items including fridges, freezers, televisions, computer monitors and mobile phones.

The sites will sell some of the electrical waste for spare parts in line with Trading Standards’ guidelines, and WeeeCare will collect the remainder of the items dropped off by householders.

Hampshire County Council’s executive member for environment & transport Cllr Mel Kendal said: “We went through a strict tendering process to find the most suitable partner to deal with the county’s electrical waste.

“We are pleased to be working with WeeeCare as their processes and commitment to responsible recycling match our own aspirations to ensure as much household waste as possible is recycled or reused.”
