Free Green Deal support for SMEs in London

A support package has been launched by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) to prepare small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for the upcoming Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

SMEs are being offered 12 hours of free support to raise awareness of the opportunities that are available through the Government’s Green Deal and ECO. The scheme is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is a component of the Institute of Sustainability’s FLASH programme.

The advice sessions seek to outline the Green Deal and ECO which aims to improve the energy and efficiency of buildings across the UK with no upfront cost.

The support package, which is specific to SMEs in London, offers information on what certification is needed, how to go about it and where to go to get it.

The EST said: “A detailed insight into innovative sustainable refurbishment will equip trade professionals with an unparalleled understanding of how individual measures contribute to a whole house energy reduction.”

The advice will include hearing from potential clients and customers who are preparing to take advantage of the Green Deal and learning more about what potential buyers are looking for in the supply chain. Speakers at the support sessions will include the London Boroughs and Greater London Authority.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has estimated that the Green Deal has the potential to support a quarter of a million jobs through installation measures such as loft, cavity and solid wall insulation, boiler replacement and renewables.

To be eligible companies must have London office addresses, fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than €50m.
