IEMA chief exec leaves for IOSH

The CEO of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Jan Chmiel, is leaving to take up the position of CEO at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Chmiel has worked with IEMA, the largest professional body for environmental practitioners, since 2009.

He said: “I look forward to working with all IOSH members and staff in taking the organisation forward and delivering on its ambitious future strategy.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining this successful team as IOSH is best placed to address the challenges of improving occupational safety and health in a changing world.”

Chmiel, who was a judge for the edie Sustainability Leaders Awards and spoke at the Sustainability Leaders Forum organised by edie .net and sustainable business magazine, will succeed outgoing chief executive Rob Strange in April.

IEMA Board chair Adrian Belton and IEMA Council chair Martin Bigg said: “Jan has guided IEMA since 2009 and provided a clear vision and leadership.

“He leaves at an exciting time for the profession, with skilled and competent environmental professionals increasingly playing a central role as change agents within organisations, addressing the challenges and opportunities created in moving to a sustainable economy.

“Jan worked with the support of a strong senior management team, who will continue to work with the board in delivering IEMA’s vision and providing support to IEMA’s members.”
